Wintergreen essential oil is one of those essential oils that we love using in our products. Taken via steam distillation from the leaves of the plant Gaultheria Procumbens, Wintergreen essential oil is used in a wide variety of household and cosmetic products, notably due to its somewhat minty, medicinal smell.
It has been used for hundreds of years by native North American tribes to relieve fatigued muscles amongst many other recorded applications.
Anti-inflammatory properties and a believed pain relief substance, combined with its distinctive aroma, make it an excellent natural remedy for tired and sore limbs.
We use Wintergreen essential oil in our Wintergreen muscle rub and our Hard working hands balm. Both carry that distinctive smell and bring a heat / cool sensation which is quite unique.
You should not use Wintergreen essential oil, or indeed any products containing wintergreen, if you are allergic to NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) or have asthma.
