Calendula flower oil

Calendula is native of Egypt and Southern Europe and has been used by herbalists for centuries. It is very commonly used in natural remedies due to believed wide and varied properties.

The plant itself is very popular amongst gardeners, being commonly seen in British gardens. It produces wonderfully vibrant yellow and orange flowers and can grow to between forty and sixty centimetres in height.

Calendula plants, which can be found widely and globally these days, are however native to Europe. They are closely related to the Marigold (though not to be mistaken for one) and part of the Asteraceae family.

Calendula oil is produced by infusing Sunflower oil through a maceration process. Calendula has many useful properties for the skin which is why you will find it in our Emu oil and Calendula balm as well as in our range of pet products such as the Skin Relief balm or the Dog Paw balm.

Why we use it and what do we use it in?

Calendula Flower oil is believed to be anti-spasmodic and may help to reduce inflammation and soothe muscles. This means it is a worthy and useful ingredient in our remedies.

It is also commonly used for skin conditions as it is believed that it helps in the healing process generally.

Another common way Calendula Flower oil is used is to help soothe dry lips due to its moisturising properties. So we also use it in our Lip balms, combining it with organic flavouring and other known nourishing ingredients, to give soft, smooth lips the natural way.
